Are Injections a Viable Alternative to Cosmetic Surgery?

Many individuals are concerned about the lines and wrinkles that time has brought about upon their face. It is for this reasoning, that cosmetic surgery and other forms of facial enhancement have become large retail markets within the United States. Many substances have been considered and used for the attainment of a youthful face. In fact, an individual can even have fat from other body areas injected into the crevices and lines of the face. However, many found that the results achieved were quite limited, and yet the patients were not ready to comply with full cosmetic surgery. This led medical research to look for alternatives.

Over the past thirty years, many substances have been researched in the hopes of finding the perfect wrinkle filler. Along the way, scientists discovered Collagen. Collagen is a natural protein that is within the skin's original make-up, but throughout time, the skin begins to lose this important component. Eventually, scientists were successful in designing a synthetic model of this important element. Collagen has since been used for many years as"filler" for small facial lines. Defenders of the procedure state that it is risk-free and permanent. However, clients have reported problems such as redness or rash at the injection sight. In addition, complaints about the collagen hardening have been raised. Those that do feel the procedure was successful will often choose to have it repeated. These factors would seem to give indication that Collagen injections are not "permanent" solutions equal to cosmetic surgery.

Recently though, it has been the substance marketed as Botox® that has gained the public's interest. Botox® is reported to be one of the "most poisonous naturally occurring substances in the world," but that has not deterred the public's vanity. Botox® is a toxin that is injected into the lines and wrinkles of the facial area. Originally used for other medical conditions, the substance is based on botulism, a type of food poisoning that can cause paralysis. The injection of the Botox® causes the muscles at the sight to lack the ability to communicate or contract. Thus, Botox® injections create a slight paralysis with the injection and initiate the appearance of a smooth, line-free complexion. The product has been praised for the results, especially in lieu of the relatively low cost. The recipient needs to understand, though, that the results are temporary and will slowly dissipate over the next four months. However, with a price of less than $500 per treatment, the use of Botox® treatments provides a viable alternative to cosmetic surgery for many individuals.

Make sure that you are ready to take cosmetic surgery injections. Sometime the pain of going in for additional treatments can be costly in terms of both time and money. Talk to your family and your friends and make sure that they agree with you on the validity of these treatments. Ask someone who is close to you if the treatments really improved their quality of life or if the treatments actually improved their appearance. A friends advice is sometimes better than the doctor who is profiting from the service.
