What?! You’re getting a Cosmetic Surgery?!

Cosmetic surgery has become common-place in our society as it recieves more and more exposure. Much of this exposure comes from Hollywood celebrities and other affluent individuals who are either attempting to improve their current appearance, or preserve themselves when faced with the effects of aging. Due to the nature of our society, these people hold a great amount of influence over the general population, and lower members of this population are often likely to immitate those they idolize. When a family member hears that one of their loved ones is likely to 'go under the knife', they are often brash in questioning them and their vain decison. They may feel like they have failed as a family member or friend for allowing this person to be so easily manipulated by popular culture. Plastic surgery has the ability to tear families apart, both literally and methaphorically. A person should seriously investigate the obvious harm plastic surgery could bring into their life. If having plastic surgery is necassary as a medical treatment, however, it is likely that explaining the situation to a persons family will not have such a negative effect, and may instead, bring the family closer together. People need to remeber, do what you are most comfortable with, not what you will be judged by, your family knows you best, and you only live once, so take your health and appearance seriously. Haveing such frivilous operations is almost never a good idea as they are expensive and harmful.

Cosmetc Surgery Fees

As with any type of surgery, cosmetic surgery can carry some high fees. Unlike medical surgeries that are necessary, cosmetic surgery is rarely if ever covered by insurance companies. This means that the majority of people getting cosmetic surgery are paying for it out of pocket. The fees with this sort of surgery can make a major dent in someone's financial pocket.

The fees associated with the surgery usually include the surgeon's fee, the anesthesiologist's fee, lab fees and the fees for the operating room. If your form of cosmetic surgery requires a hospital stay then you will be responsible for paying the hospital fees for the use of your room. Just like the fees for the surgeon can vary so can the fees for all the other operating costs. So it is essential that when pricing cosmetic surgery that you find out also what the other fees are as well. Some surgeons use more than one hospital and more than one anesthesiologist. If you doctor does use more than one then you can have a little more choice in who's pricing you like best.

The national average for surgeon's fees was ranging around $1,603 for lip augmentation. In 2006 surgeons averaged in $41,074,423 for lip augmentation throughout the year. Lip augmentation is the lowest charged cosmetic surgery. Lower body lift is the highest charged cosmetic surgery with a national average of surgeon fees of $7,578. During 2006 surgeons raked in $78,229,506 in fees for lower body lifts. Other procedures are falling in between the low and high include procedures such as breast implant removals, breast lift, buttocks implants, face lifts, chin augmentation and cheek implants. These are just a few procedures that fall within the high and low fee range.

The anesthesiologist fees can vary greatly as well. The fees for an anesthesiologist can run on a low end of $300 all the way to a high end of $2,000 dollars per time in the operating room. The anesthesiologist is responsible for administering all drug responsible for killing pain and putting you to sleep during your cosmetic surgery procedure. The anesthesiologist also monitors your vitals to make sure that you are safely sedated and handling the surgery well. It is for this reason that you want to go with a highly regarded anesthesiologist and not base your choice on price alone.

All the above expenses are national averages and do not necessarily mean that it is the rate you will be charged. Surgeons fees also vary among patients. A surgeon may charge one patient one rate but then charge a lower or higher fee for the same procedure to the next patient. The reason that the fees can vary among patients is that one may be a simple surgical procedure where as another patient want the same surgery may need more extensive work to achieve the same results. It is for that reason that one may get a lower rate than someone else with the same surgeon. The best way to find out what your cosmetic surgery is going to cost you is to set up a consult with a cosmetic surgeon. Make sure to check out different surgeons and obtain several quotes before going with one particular surgeon. As well obtain references for all doctors that you consult with that way you can rest assured that the doctor you go with is competent enough to perform your cosmetic surgery with minimal risks.
