Teens and Plastic Surgery

Everyone, it seems, wants plastic surgery, including teenagers. Nearly 40% of all teenagers polled want some form of plastic surgery, and nearly 350,000 have already undergone a procedure. The pressure they are under to look beautiful is not always healthy for teens, though. The focus they put on looks and beauty is so strong that many young women, and even some young men, are striving for perfection at any cost. Many dangers, such as infections, scarring, ruptured implants and more, are overlooked by those desperate enough to do anything to better their self-image. And while some are willing to take the risk, the price they can pay is very steep.
Clearly, plastic surgery is a decision both parents and their teens must consider carefully.

Many people do not even consider getting cosmetic surgery done on their chins. They are more apt to ask about a nose job. It is interesting that when you go do a surgeon to discuss rhinoplasty, the subject of chin work often comes up.

This is because mentoplasty, or cosmetic surgery for your chin, is often desirable to balance your face. If you have a well-defined nose but a weak chin, it does not look right. Your doctor will want you to have the best over all results. That is why you will be asked if you want this further cosmetic surgery.

One problem you might have is a receding chin. The cosmetic surgery for this might involve adding an implant. Instead, your doctor might be able to move your chin bone forward. This will build up your chin and define it better so that your appearance improves.

A different problem is a chin that juts out too far. Your surgeon has cosmetic surgery he can do to correct this as
well. If you want cosmetic surgery to remove fatty deposits under your chin, liposuction can be done in that particular area.

You surgeon can do cosmetic surgery to enhance your chin. To do this, he makes a cut along the crease just under your chin. If that does not seem to be a good place to work, he can make the incision in your mouth.

To do the cosmetic surgery on your chin, he makes an incision between your front lip and your gum. Then, he can stretch this opening until he is able to put the implant into the space.

Implants are made of synthetic materials. They feel just like your chin bone. Your doctor will find one that is a custom fit for you. He will insert it and stitch up the opening. Your cosmetic surgery should be over shortly. The stitches will never be seen if they are in your mouth. Likewise, under your chin, they can barely be noticed.

In chin reduction surgery, the same types of incisions are used. However, instead of inserting an implant, the doctor will be reshaping the chin bone. He will make it a smaller, more pleasing shape. The scarring will be minimal, just as in chin enhancement.

A special cosmetic surgery can be done to change the shape of the bones. It is called orthognathic surgery. This type of cosmetic surgery is done with the incisions under the chin or inside the mouth, as the others are done. The difference is that the bones of the face are repositioned to make the chin look more attractive.

After this cosmetic surgery, there will be some healing time. Your doctor will put a dressing on the stitches. You will not be able to eat normally for a few days. You will notice some tightness or swelling at first. You may have to limit your physical activity for a few weeks. Soon, though, you will be fully recovered and ready to face the world, with your chin up.
