Male breast enhancement surgery is not about giving a man what would be considered womanly breasts. Since women's implants can leak or rupture they no longer can use silicone gel inside those implants. The implants can come in an assortment of sizes and shapes and are used to imitate a man's own natural shape of muscular pectoral muscles.
The procedure for pectoral implants is done usually in the surgeon's office or an outpatient center. The procedure last between 1 and 2 hours and the patient can go home shortly after the surgery is done. During the surgery the surgeon will make incisions in your armpits to gain access to the chest muscles. The implants will be placed underneath the naturally existing muscles in the chest. The surgeon will check to see if the implants are even prior to stitching up the incisions. You will then be watched for about 2 hours for any complications before being sent home. Common feelings after the surgery include feelings of being hot or cold and nausea may be felt. These are considered common and normal feelings.
While the materials used for this procedure have been used decades, procedure for male pectoral implants is still considered reasonably new, according to the American Society of Plastic Surgeons, in 2006 over 400 men have had this cosmetic surgery performed. The numbers that are reported for 2006 are double that of the numbers in 2005 for male breast enhancement surgery. To be a candidate for this type of surgery a man should be free of all diseases. Asthma and high blood pressure can place a patient at risk of complications during surgery. Therefore it is important to discuss with the surgeon any pre-existing medical conditions that may interfere with the surgical procedure.
