What You Always Wanted to Know About Cosmetic Surgery

Many people are considering cosmetic procedures more than ever. Cosmetic surgery involves altering areas of the body, so one should keep in mind that like any other surgery, it comes with possible risks or complications. Although most complications can be minor such as scarring or infection, there are major complications and a rare few have even resulted in death. A patient therefore needs to make an informed decision before consenting to any procedure. The following are some factors that need to be considered before one undergoes cosmetic surgery: (1) The doctor who will perform the surgery - Make sure that your doctor has the necessary qualifications. Cosmetic surgery should only be done by well-trained and experienced doctors in the field. Talk to your doctor about his education, qualifications, experience and license. Any reputable doctor should be open to this discussion. Usually, the qualifications of established doctors can also be checked online. (2) The facility where the surgery will be performed - Surgery can be done either in a hospital or a private clinic. While hospitals have certain standards and law requirements to meet, these are not generally applicable to clinics. If you are considering surgery outside of a hospital, make sure the clinic has all the needed equipment, the ability to control complications, defined emergency procedures, and well-trained personnel. Don't hesitate to ask questions.

Cosmetic Surgery: Options for a beautiful smile

There are many ways to obtain that million dollar smile and if the cost is not a problem, anyone can correct whatever issues they have and receive the smile they've always dreamed of. It's a sad commentary on our society that so many people are judged by whether or not they have nice teeth. But the reality is: that's what is done. It's even been noted that when hiring personnel the person hiring will almost always hire the person with the better smile and dental work.

Two years ago, on the ABC show, American Idol, one of the finalists had a mouthful of crooked teeth and was given a gift when he was voted off the show; a New York dentist offered his services to reconstruct the singer's mouth. What would have cost over $10,000.00 was the gift the singer received and the improvement it made to his star-quality was unbelievable.

Some of the options for dental cosmetic surgery are the process of whitening the teeth or bleaching the teeth. There are products that can be purchased over the counter at any grocery store or drug store that claim to have the same results as the teeth whitening products you can get from your dentist. Some of them consist of a clear piece of plastic; one that fits the top teeth and a second that fit the bottom teeth and wearing them for a few minutes everyday is supposed to whiten your teeth. At the dentist an impression is made of your teeth and from that a thin clear tray is made. You are given a solution to place into the tray and you were them to bed. These are really good because the trays have been shaped to match up directly with your teeth and the amount of whitening solution needed is minimal. A real benefit to the whitening from the dentist is that once you bleach your teeth for two weeks, they're pretty much done and if in a few months you want to bleach them again, it only takes one over night or two. I will say that I personally have had wonderful results from the dentist administered whitening kit and would highly recommend it.

There is a process called dental bonding and this is used if a tooth has become chipped, broken or cracked or if they are spaced too far apart. In this process a tooth-colored material is applied and bonded to the surface of the tooth and it is shaped to complete the repair. These corrections are virtually undetectable once they are complete.

Another cosmetic fix that can be done at the dentist's is having veneers attached to the front of the tooth, fixing any flaws that may have needed to be covered up or corrected. If there is a tooth discoloration and it pertains to one tooth, the veneers are a great option because it can be placed on an individual tooth without disrupting the other surrounding teeth. They attach with a thin coating of glue-like material and are designed to wrap around and on to the tooth itself.
