Cosmetic Surgery Options for Spider & Varicose Veins
You've seen them, we've all seen them and they're anything but a pretty sight; varicose veins. They are usually found on the legs and more often than not they are the plague of women. Two of the biggest reasons people get varicose veins is one, it's hereditary and two, they seem to be a real problem during and after pregnancy.
Often times, the precursor to varicose veins are what are called spider veins; they are different forms of the same thing but often start out as spider veins and grow into the more painful varicose veins. The varicose veins are described as having a rope-like appearance and spider veins do not usually protrude thru the skin but are red or purple in color and have a squiggly shape to them, representative of a spider's web.
Other issues that bring on varicose veins occur because of the aging process, obesity or if the person is standing still or sitting for extended amounts of time. If varicose and spider veins do not result from any of these situations, in the least, the veins are left vulnerable to being damaged unless changes are made by either losing weight or making sure that when a person sits too long, they take continuous breaks to walk around and keep the circulation moving.
Because varicose veins are known to be very painful, as well as unattractive, there are several different ways they can be treated with cosmetic surgery. Varicose veins cause symptoms like tiredness, achy, heaviness and treatment of some kind will often repair those symptoms and improve the quality of life of anyone who suffers from such conditions.
If untreated, blood clots that occur in varicose veins run the risk of dislodging and causing much more severe ailments in parts of the body like the lungs or heart. Because a varicose vein is often the result of a weak vein wall or a valve that is not working properly and is allowing the blood to flow backward and pool in the vessel, medical attention should be a priority.
One of the procedures used to correct spider and varicose veins is called, closure. Closure is a vast improvement of this procedure compared to the ways these veins were dealt with from the past; closure can be performed in a doctor's office, under local anesthesia as opposed to the former means of having to check into the hospital and have the procedure performed in the operating room under general anesthesia. Anytime a patient can opt for not having to go into surgery with general anesthesia should explore that option because of the possible side effects and incidents that can occur under those circumstances like, infection, scarring and the inability to return to normal functions because of a longer recovery process. When a patient can opt for the closure procedure there are fewer side effects and the patient is able to resume normal activity after the treatment rather than the week long recovery process the old procedures would require.
