What to expect when you're going under the knife

After a few days, pain is still present. People can start having second thoughts at this point, most of it has to do with the fact that bandage still has to be left on and swelling will be even more noticeable as your body heals. Inidividuals will then start wondering if they made the right choice, if it was worth it and if the end result is going to be worse than what it was at first. This is the point when individuals have to come down and think ahead of time. In a couple of weeks the healing process will complete and until then only patience can be on your side. As individuals go through this stage, the focus should be on mantaining a calm, relaxed state of mind, this in turn will result in a faster healing process. Pain and uncertainty are part of any plastic surgery procedure, as with any other event, individuals must learn to cope and be patient, since after a plastic surgery physical activity may be restricted by your surgeon. An individual will also have to rest most of the day, so your everyday life must be put on a stop at least for the short time that the healing process takes place. Coping will be the keyword to follow at this stage, after a few short weeks, life can go back to normal and by that time you may just discover a new you.

Risks Associated With A Face Lift

A face lift also known as rhytidectomy is a form of cosmetic surgery that is performed to reduce the signs of aging. Incisions are made in the face that allow for the surgeon to lift the skin up and/or over. The effects of a face lift are reduced or eliminated wrinkles on the face, elimination of a saggy jowl and indention in the facial skin are removed. These benefits of a face lift can improve a person's self esteem and enhance the way that they see themselves. As with any form of surgery though, a face lift carries with it risks that one must take into consideration prior to surgery. Some risks are minimal and go away with time, while other risks are more severe and may require medical intervention to correct.

Infections are a risk with any type of surgery that one has performed. Infections are usually cleared up with the aid of antibiotics. Fevers usually accompany infections since a fever is a sign that the body is trying to fight the infection off. Fevers will usually be dealt with by using a fever reducer along with the antibiotics.

The loss of sensation near the incisions is normal and sensations will usually return with time. The risk with a face lift is the permanent loss of sensations in these areas. The loss of sensation in the areas around the incisions is more a troublesome problem than it is a medical issue.

There are many nerves in the face. These nerves help the face to move about normally with the muscles in the face. When a face lift is performed during cosmetic surgery nerve damage can occur. When nerve damage occurs facial paralysis can result.

During a face lift the surgeon will be lifting the skin up and rearrange the skin. This can place you at risk of your blood supply to your face being interfered with. When the blood supply to the face is interfered with health problems can result. The interfering of the blood can result in necrosis of the skin tissue. Necrosis is the term used to describe the death of skin tissue.

Hair loss is another risk associated with a face lift during cosmetic surgery. The reason that one can suffer from hair loss is because most of the incision are done behind the hairline. In extreme situations the scalp may be pulled to tight and result in loss of hair in more areas than just around the incision site. Alopecia is a rare occurrence with a face lift. When alopecia occurs a person can loss not only all the hair on their head but their eyelashes and eyebrows may also fall out.

Asymmetry issues may also result from a face lift. A face lift can take a face from being symmetrical to causing noticeable different alignments between both sides of the face. When a face lift results in an asymmetry then more surgery will be needed to correct the problem. This opens a person up to all the other risks associated with surgery due to the fact that they must now undergo surgery a second time.
