Seriously Mom & Dad, a Cosmetic Surgery?!

There are quit a lot of baby boomers out there who are considering cosmetic surgery. And for those with children even grown children, the thought can be a difficult one. If you are a child of a man or woman who is considering plastic surgery, the thought of it might be more difficult for you to accept than it is for them. Understandably you want your parent to look like they have always looked you don’t want to come home one day and not recognize you own flesh and blood. However, most of you really shouldn’t worry about that. These days, plastic surgery techniques are subtle and refined. Your parent will simply look refreshed and well rested. They probably won’t come home looking like a cartoon of themselves with their skin stretched tight across their face. If you are worried about them, you might want to help them research plastic surgeons in your area. It will help both of you be calm, relaxed, and informed about the procedure. You can even go into the Doctors office with them, and wait for them in the waiting room while they get it done. You will be happy that you did, and so will they!

Cosmetic Surgery: The History of

Although the first documented plastic surgery took place in the 19th century, in the United States, when a physician developed his own tools for the procedure and was successful in fixing the cleft palate of a patient there are stories that date back to the B.C. times. In India at the time around 800 B.C., the punishment handed out for some crimes, was for the person to have their noses cut off, and it was due to this practice that doctors found a way to make necessary repairs and the actual process of performing a cosmetic surgery was discovered. Of course, there were not many of those procedures that were successful due to the fact that there was no concept of sterilization and the fact that there wasn't a real understanding of how the body reacts to traumas and how to best heal those traumas.

By the 20th century, after World War I, the need for helping soldiers disfigured by the war and unable to return to their pre-war lives, came the need for this kind of surgery. There were many casualties before it was discovered that with the advancement of surgical procedures some of these lives could be saved. As the concept of reconstructive surgery saved lives, the idea caught on that if a surgeon could fix a problem then maybe there was something to be looked at for fixing a problem that was a personal affliction. What would happen if a person felt they would look better if their nose were changed? Thus the popularity of cosmetic surgery was begun and has increased by the types of procedures that can be performed to the cost of the surgeries being affordable. What used to be a luxury for only the most wealthy individuals is now more affordable and more and more average Americans are opting for the cost of what they believe will improve their looks.

Cosmetic surgery has not only been used for the people who are in pursuit of the perfect face but it has helped hundreds of thousands of people overcome the disfigurements caused by birth defects or traumas. There are two kinds of deformities; congenital deformities are the ones a person is born with and they can consist of anything from, birthmarks, cleft palates, webbed fingers, abnormal development of the breasts or the outer ear which can be too large or too far from the person's head. When birth defects are clearly visible there is a lot of taunting and teasing that happens within the ranks of children and these episodes can often cause great emotional stress to where the damage done cannot be medically recovered or healed. It is very important to keep that in mind when a child is ready to go to school; there is always the threat of emotional damage being caused by staring, whispering and teasing.

There are also developmental deformities that consist of; burns, aging, lacerations and growths, moles or tumors that the patient was not born with. When these kind of issues are addressed there is a great aesthetic benefit and often times a sense of feeling and looking "normal" again can be achieved.
